Bustinza, leadership and intensity in defence

The defender has signed to Málaga CF for three seasons. He arrives on a free transfer from CD Leganés with a contract until 2025.

Unai Bustinza Martínez (Bilbao, 1992) is a versatile defender capable of playing as a central defender or right-winger, with 150 games under his belt between the First and Second Divisions and promotion playoffs to the silver division.

Homegrown Athletic Club player

His journey in youth football kicked off within the fruitful youth academy of Lezama, in the youth ranks of Athletic Club de Bilbao (2002-11).

After a season at CD Basconia (10/11), he played 80 league games in three seasons in the bronze category with Bilbao Athletic (2011-14).

During his last year with the Bilbao outfit, with Ernesto Valverde at the helm, he made his debut in the elite in an Almería-Athletic clash (0-1) corresponding to LaLiga matchday 9 of the 14/15 campaign.

Seven years with Leganés

Unai signed to CD Leganés in 15/16, completing seven consecutive seasons with the 'pepinero' team. During his first campaign he managed to ascend to the First Division and in the following four he remained in the gold division playing a hundred league games with the Madrid side.

In the recent 20/21 and 21/22 seasons, in LaLiga SmartBank, Bustinza has continued to accumulate games (30 in the League and three in the Cup) serving as one of the Leganés captains due to his hierarchy in the locker room and his contagious fighting spirit on the pitch.

A 30-year-old team player in the full maturity of his career, who is determined to give his all for the Blue and White colours.

Welcome to Málaga and lots of luck, Unai!
