Bittersweet debut for women’s team in Liga Iberdrola (0-4)

The Malaguistas suffered a 0-4 defeat by Atlético de Madrid Femenino in the first match of the season in the First Division, with nearly 800 Malaguistas cheering on the team despite the rain.

It was a 0-4 defeat for Málaga CF Femenino against Atlético de Madrid Femenino in the first match of the Liga Iberdrola this season. The game was held at the Federación with almost 800 Malaguistas supporting the girls throughout, in spite of the rain.

La Liga Iberdrola arrived in Málaga with a top-level game. Málaga CF Femenino faced Atlético de Madrid Femenino and the demand of the match was palpable from the outset. Both sides were focused in midfield and after five minutes Atleti kicked-off their attack towards the Málaga goal, coming up against Chelsea saves twice. In minute 8 of play, Adriana surprised the rival keeper with a shot that ended in Lola’s hands. Ball possession was divided between both teams, but in 14’, following a great run, Ludmila opened the scoring for Atlético. Antonio Contreras’ girls continued their attack, but the Malaguista actions didn’t convert into goals. At half-time, the scoreboard remained at 0-1.

No sooner had the second half got underway, Atlético had a chance to increase their lead, and did so with another goal from Ludmila who scored the 0-2 in minute 47. Málaga changed their gameplay and made some substitutions, starting with Natalia in place of Paula Fernández. However, the rival continued to dominate possession and in 52’ Jenni Hermoso made it 0-3. Contreras made some more changes, with Shiv replacing Marta Cazalla and Celia Ruano coming on in place of Pamela. The Malaguistas stepped up their attack, but Atleti proved more effective. The last player to step on to the pitch was María Ruiz, in place of Raquel. Together with Ruth and Encarni, Ruiz was the third Malagueña to debut in the First Division wearing the Málaga shirt today. Striker, Almáchar had various opportunities that had no reward. Bad luck continued for Málaga Femenino and in 86’ Leti scored an own goal to made it a 0-4 final result.
