Big results prevail against Barça

In recent seasons, Málaga CF has specialised in playing extraordinary matches and obtaining magnificent results against the reigning LaLiga champions, FC Barcelona.

Following the sensational win against Barça on Saturday at Martiricos, the goals from Sandro and Jony reflect a clear statistical reality: Málaga CF competes phenomenally well against the winner of the last two Spanish Leagues. The Malaguista squad is the only one in the League competition so far in 2016/17, who has been capable of maintaining a clean sheet in the two games against Barcelona (0-0 at Camp Nou and 2-0 at La Rosaleda). In addition, they have scored the highest number of points against Barça (4 out of 6).

Last season, Luis Enrique’s team won by the minimum in the two matches against Málaga, with a 1-0 in Barcelona thanks to a goal by Vermaelen in the final minutes, followed by a 1-2 win at the Blue and Whites’ stadium. In 2014/15, MCF accumulated – as in this season – four out of six points against FC Barcelona thanks to a goalless draw at La Rosaleda, and the historic 0-1 (Juanmi goal) in Barcelona, with Kameni the only goalkeeper of that season who didn’t concede a goal against Barça in either of the two League games.

La Rosaleda vibrated with a victory two days ago, inherited from the 2003/04 season when MCF defeated Rijkaard’s Barça by 5-1, with goals from Salva Ballesta (3), Diego Alonso and Canabal. A date to remember, now joined by the recent 2-0 win on 8th April 2017.
