AZ show their effectiveness in tonight’s friendly (3-0)

Málaga CF lost out to AZ Alkmaar at the AFAS Stadion in another pre-season test. Ouwejan, Van Overeem and Seuntjens scored the goals for a more rounded Dutch side.

The home team had more territorial dominance in the first quarter of an hour of play. In regard to Málaga, Kuzmanovic made his pre-season debut in the starting-11. Midway through the first half, Mula had the first shot at goal, with a kick from the left following a pass from Keko in 24’. A minute later, homegrown player, Maty tried his luck from in front of the AZ Alkmaar area.

MCF went from less to more in the final part of the first half, with Keko and Mula penetrating well on the wings. At the back, the team showed reliability in defence with good withdrawals and solvency in crosses. In minute 40, the best chance for the Blue and Whites arrived with a distant shot by Juankar from a set piece, which forced an impressive save by keeper, Marco Bizot. At half-time, the score remained at 0-0.

In the second half, Míchel made multiple changes, which saw the debut of goalkeeper, Cenk Gönen. The Turk, in minute 52, showed his qualities with a superb clearance from a Jahanbakhsh shot. However, he was unable to prevent Ouwejan scoring for the Dutch team, which started with a run from the left, to put AZ in front (1-0, 65’). In minute 69, Stengs collided with the crossbar following a free kick, and a minute later, Van Overeem scored the second goal of the game for the Holland-based outfit in a pacey action (2-0, 70’).

The rain continued, and Málaga, made up of players raised in the Academy, attempted to contain the rival who were emboldened by the wind in their favour. In the 86th minute AZ Alkmaar scored again following a counter-attack, with a goal from Seuntjens (3-0, 86’). A favourable result for the locals, in what was a demanding pre-season test for Málaga CF.

Míchel González selected the following initial line-up: Roberto; Cifu, Luis H., Baysse, Juankar; Keko, Kuzmanovic, Maty, Mula; Adrián and Borja Bastón. Also in action – in the second half - Cenk Gönen, Rosales, Luis Muñoz, Miguel Torres, Mikel, Álex Robles, David Ramos, Recio, José Carlos, Chory and En-Nesyri.
