Away defeat against CD Leganés (2-0)

It wasn’t to be at Butarque for Málaga CF, who lost out to the Madrid-based rival. Eraso and Amrabat netted the goals for the ‘pepinero’ team.

CD Leganés piled the pressure on in the early stages of play, with a highly active and incisive Amrabat. Ricca was seen by medics after sustaining a blow inside Leganés’ area. The ‘pepinero’ rival sent out a warning through Amrabat, although his attempt grazed the left post of Roberto’s goal. The Malaguistas began to set the pace of play midway through the first half. Rolan had the opportunity to put José González’s lads in front in minute 29, but his shot, after a great assist from Alberto Bueno, didn’t find the net. Four minutes later, the Uruguayan striker tried his luck again with a header towards the target, but the Madrid team’s keeper deflected the ball. The scoreboard remained all square after 45 minutes (0-0).

The second kicked off with no changes for either side. Eraso took Leganés 1-0 up in minute 55 with a header into goal from a Diego Rico assist, who was clearly offside. The Malaguista coach decided to bring Ideye off the bench in place of Bueno. The Nigerian striker took advantage of an error by the rival defence to stand before the goalkeeper, but Garitano’s men prevented his chances of a leveller. Amrabat scored the second goal for the locals in the 62nd minute with a shallow shot from outside the area. José González brought on Kuzmanovic in place of Iturra. Minutes later, the visitors generated the most promising opportunity to get on the scoreboard. En-Nesyri connected a good shot that narrowly missed the net. Juanpi joined the match in substitution of Chory, the final change for the Blue and Whites. Málaga gave their all in the closing stages, but the final result was 2-0 to the home side.
