The ‘Malaguista’ reserve team’s second Third Division Group IX match of the season kicks off on Sunday at 7 p.m. against another strong rival, Atlético Mancha Real.
Salva Ballesta’s boys are all match-fit ahead of Sunday’s game, having trained on the artificial turf at the ‘Federación Malagueña’ ground this week in preparation. The Blue and Whites’ victory against Vélez CF last Sunday gave the team a big morale boost during this demanding start to the competition.
Past results at this ground haven’t gone in Atlético Malagueño’s favour. Over the last four years, the Blue and Whites have suffered three defeats: 4-1 in 2009/10; 3-1 in 2011/12; and 1-0 in 2012/13. The ‘Malaguistas’ were victorious in 2010/11 by 0-1, thanks to an Atlético Mancha Real own goal.
Fernando Campos’ Atlético Mancha Real came away with a draw in their first match of the season against Español del Alquián, following a goal from Albertillo in the 90th minute. Atlético Mancha Real has a lot of experience in this division – over the last three seasons they’ve been in the Second B division play-offs – and are used to playing a very direct, physical game on a smaller pitch with artificial turf. They kicked off this season with six players out of action: Arnedo, Santi López, Vacas, Valenciano, Juanlu and Carlos Ortega, who are still in doubt for tomorrow’s game against the Blue and Whites.
The Atlético Malagueño line up for tomorrow: Toni, Aaron, Jurado, Víctor Ruiz, Álex Portillo, Mosquera, Cristian, Rafa, Marrufo, Pablo, Vela, Juanpi, Samu Castillejo, Pedro, Mauri and Rufo.
