Atlético Malagueño draws against Vélez in their League debut (2-2)
Atlético Malagueño drew against Vélez in the first match of Group IX in the Third Division. Despite dominating the majority of the game, Josep Clotet’s team conceded two goals within three minutes.
The Blue and Whites had three clear goal opportunities during the first 20 minutes of the match, held in the ‘Federación Malagueña de Fútbol’ stadium. The ‘Malaguistas’ were soon on the leader board, with a goal from Óscar Sielva from a free kick putting them in the lead by 1-0.
As well as the first goal, the match was definitely progressing in favour of Atlético Malagueño, as the referee sent of Aitor in the 33rd minute, leaving Vélez with just 10 men for the rest of the game. Clotet’s team did their best to take advantage of this, and soon scored a second goal. Impressive play by Samu on the left wing set up a fantastic ball for Emilio Guerra, who put Malagueño 2-0 in the lead. It wasn’t until just before the half time whistle, when a shot by Cristian Cabezas just missed the goal, as local keeper Pol forced a corner.
The second half got underway in a similar vein to the first 45 minutes. Emilio Guerra had numerous further chances to score for Malagueño, but Vélez hadn’t finished yet. Victor Rueda was the first to put Vélez on the score board in minute 63. However, the worst was still to come for the ‘Malaguistas’ when the visitors scored a second goal within three minutes. Óscar Sielva was given a red card following aggressive behaviour in the penalty area, leaving both teams with just 10 men. Two minutes later the ref awarded a penalty to Vélez following an incident with Castillejo. Azuaga scored the equaliser to level out the score board at 2-2.
Sergi Darder had a final chance to score for Atlético Malagueño with a fantastic shot in the 80th minute, but the ball went long. Another Vélez player, Adamo, was sent off with a double yellow card minutes later.
The final result ended with a point each for both team, though Atlético Malagueño were the superior team for most of the match, but the Blue and Whites couldn’t score a third goal to defeat the Axarquía-based team.
