Málaga CF will head to the Municipal de Anduva to play matchday 23 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION against CD Mirandés. This exciting match will take place on Monday 20th at 20:30, with Arenas taking centre stage in the design of the match poster and on the Blue and White captain's armband.
Arenas, a town with an authentic Andalusian atmosphere thanks to its steep streets and white houses, is surrounded by mountains such as Bentomiz, which offers stunning views of the sea and the mountains. Its fields are home to olive and almond trees, and its famous muscatel wines have become one of the main attractions of the area. Additionally, its natural surroundings, with trails and rivers, make it an ideal place to enjoy nature.
Sheltered by the fortress of Bentomiz, Arenas is a place where the traces of various civilizations intertwine. Its origins date back to Iberian times, when the strategic importance of the site was already recognised. The Romans left their baths, and later, the Arabs solidified the town as a defensive stronghold. After the expulsion of the Moors, Christian repopulators arrived, and in 1869, Daimalos, another ancient village in the area, was incorporated into Arenas.
Arenas is one of those towns that captivate you at first sight. With its Church of Santa Catalina Mártir, built on an ancient mosque, and the Bentomiz Castle offering breathtaking views, it won’t leave you indifferent. In the centre, you'll find the mural by Virgilio González and the olive oil mill, while in Daimalos, the 12th-century fountain and the Church of the Conception continue to reflect the town's Arab past, and the Fuente Perdida, with its love legend, adds a unique touch.
The cuisine of Arenas, typical of the Axarquía region, is known for its extra virgin olive oil and dishes such as chivo al ajillo (garlic goat), potaje de coles (cabbage stew), and migas with olives and herring. In addition to these traditional flavours, subtropical products like avocado and cherimoya enrich the local cuisine.
If there's one thing Arenas has, it's festivals that make you feel part of something special. Every August, the town bursts with colour and music during the fair in honour of San Sebastián and Santa Catalina. Everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, enjoys activities such as Children's Day, the pilgrimage, and traditional popular games. In October, the Mule Fair celebrates this beloved animal with exhibitions, competitions, and musical performances.
As the image for the match poster and the captain's armband for #MirandésMálaga, artist José Luis Puche showcases his talent with the recreation of La Fuente del Amor, also known as Fuente Perdida. This fountain, of Arab origin, is famous for its Muslim architecture and a legend that claims, “whoever drinks the water from its source in Daimalos will find love.”
