An Argentine tank to reinforce upfront

Gustavo Blanco arrives at Málaga CF from FC Shakhtar Donetsk on loan for the 2018/19 season. After passing the usual medical, the forward will be presented tomorrow, Thursday at the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room at La Rosaleda.

Gustavo Ezequiel Blanco Leschuk was born in Las Heras, in the Argentinean province of Mendoza, on 5th November 1991. After competing in the lower ranks, he made his professional debut at Arsenal de Sarandí in the 2010/11 season. The following year he won the Torneo Clausura with the Argentine outfit and was subsequently loaned out to Deportivo Merlo in Primera ‘B’, before making the move to football away from his home country in 2014.

Characteristics

A born centre forward (1’90 metres), his profile is that of an old-style classic striker. Strong in aerial play, he oxygenates the game from behind and fixes well on rivals due to his physical build. A goal-shooter, fundamentally practical and effective in definition.

Russia, Morocco, Sweden and Ukraine  

In recent years Blanco has competed in various leagues with Russian side, FC Anzhi; Wydad Casablanca in Morocco; Sweden’s Assyriska FF; and Ukraine teams Karpaty Lviv and Shakhtar Donetsk.

It was precisely in his last stage in Ukraine, in the 2016/17 campaign, when he accumulated his best scoring records, with 11 goals in the Premier (seven with Karpaty and four with Donetsk). He scored one more goal with Shakhtar, at Balaídos against Celta de Vigo, in the UEFA Europa League. With his former prestigious club, Blanco won two leagues, two cups and one Ukrainian Super Cup.
