The start of the second third of LaLiga 1|2|3 wasn’t a positive one for Málaga CF, following yesterday’s narrow defeat away to Extremadura.
These are some of the highlights from #ExtremaduraMálaga, which ended with a 1-0 win for the local side thanks to a goal from Kike Márquez.
Fans ‘10 out of 10’
Another away game in which the Blue and White fans didn’t fail to make the journey to support Málaga CF. Some 500 fans cheered on their team and suffered with the defeat. The team, at the end of the game, greeted the Malaguistas who had travelled to Almendralejo to thank them for their support.
Homegrown presence
There was an important representation of homegrown players in Muñiz’s squad. The Asturian coach, passionate about formative football, had up to four players who have moved up from grassroots level at the Club. As well as Iván as number ‘2’, in the final part of the first half three players from the MCF Academy were in action behind Blanco Leschuk: Juanpi, Ontiveros and Hicham.
Competitiveness
Whilst it is true that the results aren’t going the team’s way outside of La Rosaleda, the team always stands up to rivals in games. This season the lads have only lost by more than one goal in Elche, and without going further afield, in Almendralejo they generated enough chances to take at least one point from Extremadura. Always competitive.
Third place
The silver division, as Muñiz often reminds us, is incredibly tight. Despite the bad streak away from Martiricos, the invulnerability at home allows MCF to remain in the privileged positions in the standings. Third place, just a point away from the direct promotion places… and with a +6-point advantage over seventh place (Cádiz CF). Not bad at all.
