A team against gender violence

The University of Málaga hosted a Round Table, organised by the MCF Foundation, entitled ‘A TEAM Against Gender Violence’, attended by Roberto Rosales and Adriana Martín.

The event, organised for the second consecutive year by the Club’s Foundation, was held today at the Judicial Chamber of the Faculty of Law at UMA. During the discussion, the need to raise awareness about gender violence was covered, an unfortunate problem that exists in our society, as well as issues related to sports-relations between coach and player, sexist attitudes in sport, media treatment of sporting successes or social acceptance of certain behaviours as a basic problem. Beforehand, the documentary ‘Volver a Ser’ about domestic violence was shown.

Present at ‘A TEAM Against Gender Violence’ were Malaguista player, Roberto Rosales, Blue and Whites’ player, Adriana Martín, as well as member of the MCF Foundation’s Social Department, Sebastián Fernández Reyes ‘Basti’.

Journalist, Isabel Sánchez moderated the Round Table, which also involved Ruth Sarabia (Director General of Social Rights at City Hall); Resurrección Hernández (Director of the Citizenship Council of Provincial Government); Elena Mendoza (Union against Violence against Women of the sub-delegation of the government); Ana María Prieto (Professor of Criminal Law at UMA); Isabel Jiménez Lucena (Delegate of the Rector for Equality and Social Action); and María del Carmen Moreno (Delegate of the Rector for Equality and Social Action).

Statements by Roberto Rosales

“This shouldn’t happen, as this is a time of great equality. In my family, for example, my sister plays, my mother plays, my cousin plays…Violence shouldn’t exist, and I believe that equality must be present. We’re in a society that needs equality, that’s my way of thinking. Gender violence should not exist, quite the opposite, we all need to be united”.
