A poor first half condemns Málaga at the Pizjuán (4-1)
Two goals by Vietto in Sevilla’s first two arrivals marked the run of play for the local side. Ben Yedder and Vitolo sealed their victory soon after. Sandro pulled one back from a free kick in the second half.
Sevilla pushed their rival from the start, enjoying more possession in the first minutes of play, although without creating any clear danger for Boyko. Rosales and Juankar deployed their physical power, with the Venezuelan generating the first approach for the visitors – a shot cleared by the Sevilla defence. Another chance for Rosales came in minute 17, that resulted in a corner. Two minutes later, the best chance to open the scoring arrived. A stunning right-footer from Pablo Fornals from in front of the area narrowly missed the target and grazed the post. Sevilla continued to create more approaches, and it was Vietto who gave the locals a 1-0 lead (25’) with a tight shot at the base of the post. Two minutes later, (28’), Vietto scored the second goal for Sevilla after picking up possession on the goal line. A double for the Argentinean. Ben Yedder (34') and Vitolo (36') didn’t take any prisoners, and with two counter-attacks scored the third and fourth goals for Sevilla. Juanpi tested Sergio Rico with a close call, but the keeper sent the ball to a corner.
Juande Ramos made some changes for the second half. Recio and Ontiveros came on in place of Ricca and Juanpi to refresh midfield and the right wing. The Blue and Whites came out with more drive in the second half, and went all out on the attack on the right wing, with a very active Ontiveros. Juankar made the most of a mistake by the rival defence to gain possession in front of the area. Rami arrived late and brought him down. The dangerous foul led to a yellow card for the central defender, who was then sent off for protesting. Juankar was forced to abandon play as he sustained a blow, with Chory Castro his substitution. Sandro didn’t miss the occasion and scored his seventh goal of the season (64’). The third goal from a free kick for the Canaries-born striker so far in the League competition. Málaga gave their all in the final third of the game, but their approaches weren’t rewarded.
