500 times as MCF at La Rosaleda

The match between Málaga Club de Fútbol and Real Club Celta de Vigo will be number 500 to be played at La Rosaleda, in official competition, since the re-founding of the Club in 1994.

A special day today at the stadium of all the Malaguistas. The Martiricos ground is hosting its 500th match as Málaga Club de Fútbol, since MCF was born 23 years ago. The first match at La Rosaleda took place on 11th September 1994, with a 1-0 win for the Blue and Whites against Juventud de Torremolinos, in Third Division Group IX.

MCF’s 499 official matches at their stadium are distributed as follows: 308 in the First Division, 63 in the Second Division, 57 in Second B, 20 in the Third Division, 31 Copa del Rey games, 6 UEFA Champions League matches, 5 UEFA Cup clashes, 3 in the Intertoto Cup, 3 Second Division promotion matches and another 3 Second Division B promotion games.

The team’s percentage of victories at our fortress is nearing 50 per cent, with 246 wins. In regard to goals, up to now, the crowd has celebrated a Málaga CF goal 790 times (an average of 1’58 per game). Undoubtedly the most memorable win was the unforgettable 14-0 against Garrucha on 7th May 1995.

In reference to individual stats, Duda, with 173 matches played at La Rosaleda in all competitions, played the most games, with Jesús Gámez (155) and Vicente Valcarce (143) completing the particular podium of legends. Basti, with 40 goals, is MCF’s highest scorer in all matches in all categories, followed by Dely Valdés (33) and Salva Ballesta (31).

Curiously, Málaga CF’s last official victory at their stadium was against the same rival as today, Real Club Celta de Vigo (3-0). What better way to round off an excellent anniversary with a triumph against the Galician outfit?
