10 years in the elite ends in defeat (0-1)

Málaga CF lost out to Getafe CF, at La Rosaleda, on LaLiga Santander matchday 38. A goal from Remy from the penalty spot in the second half led the Madrid rival to victory, bringing an end to the 2017/18 season.

With several new additions to the starting line-up, Málaga stepped on to the pitch with Iturra as captain, in the position of left-back. On the other side, homegrown player, Álex Robles made his debut in the League competition. A good start from Getafe, particularly striker, Ángel, put Andrés Prieto to the test in minute 3 with a powerful shot.

After the first quarter of an hour, control of play was less in the hands of the visitors, whilst MCF demonstrated the quality of Lestienne and the courage of En-Nesyri. In 21’, the Blue and Whites had their first shot at goal with play woven by Success culminating in a chance for Rolan. There was little space to shine on both wings, leaving barely any opportunity to reach either goal area with intent.

In 42’, former Malaguista, Antunes launched a distant free kick, perfectly repelled by Prieto. The scoreboard remained goalless at half time.

In the second half the pace of play didn’t alter too much, with Getafe enjoying more possession, against a well-armed Málaga at the back awaiting a quick transition. In 63’, another combination between Success and Rolan ended in a one-on-one forced by the Uruguayan against a secure Guaita. In minute 67, another action by Success, leaving Lestienne unmarked, narrowly missed out on an opener from the Belgian who launched a right-rooter to the side of the net.

In the 68th minute, Ideye came on in place of Lestienne on the attack. Diego González, who committed a foul for which he saw his fifth yellow card of the campaign, allowed Remy to put Getafe in front from the 11-metre mark (0-1, 73’). Keko substituted En-Nesyri in 76’, and juvenil player, Juan Cruz, in 84’ made his first team debut in an official match, coming on in place of Lacen. Moving over to the right wing, the left-winger from the Academy showed a touch of class.

Remy, just before the final whistle, pardoned before Prieto a clear chance to score again. The epilogue of a season that brings an end to 10 years in the First Division, with a relegated Málaga CF in 20th place in LaLiga with 20 points, in the best stage in the entire history of the Martiricos Club.
