The team is taking part in a pre-season tournament in Germany

Málaga CF will compete in the Schauinsland Reisen Cup, in Duisburg, on Sunday 23rd July. The format of the German tournament will be quadrangular, taking place at the host team’s home ground, MSV Duisburg.

On 23rd July, the MSV Arena in Duisburg, which has a capacity for 31,500 spectators, will host a friendly tournament between four teams, in a quadrangular format. There will be two matches per team, each of a 45-minute duration. As well as Málaga CF and the organising team - from the ‘2. Bundesliga’, MSV Duisburg - also taking part in the Schauinsland Reisen Cup is a known pre-season rival to the Malaguistas, English side, Aston Villa FC. The fourth participant is yet to be determined.

Duisburg and Aston Villa

  • Duisburg won the ‘3. Bundesliga’ this season, meaning they will compete in the silver division of German football next season. Their last presence in the Bundesliga was in the 2007/08 campaign. Their best classification in the top flight was second place, in 1964. They were also finalists in the German Cup on four occasions (1966, 1975, 1998 and 2011).
  • Aston Villa, an historic side in British football, ended this season in 13th place in the Championship, the Second Division in England. The Birmingham-based squad, a classic in the Premier League, were champions of Europe in 1981/82. In addition, they have accumulated seven leagues in the formerly named First Division, and another seven FA Cup titles, amongst other standout achievements.
