Return to professional football after a year in the third tier, and ninth season in the Second Division under the name Málaga Club de Fútbol. Continuity at the helm of the sporting management with Loren Juarros, and on the bench with Sergio Pellicer, in a project built on the youth academy and the key pillars of promotion, with only a few adjustments in terms of signings.

From the very start of the competition, Málaga CF showed its clear identity. Defensive solidity, with a titan between the posts in Alfonso Herrero; reliability at La Rosaleda, where only Elche CF managed to win in the first half of the season; and maximum competitiveness to grind out results with a very distinct DNA. Never give up.

In tangible terms, Málaga CF was the best newly promoted team in the early stretch of the championship. 30 points, a comfortable 10th place in the standings, only three defeats in 21 matches, and an encouraging end to 2024 with a home victory against Eldense (3-0) and a win in Gijón over Real Sporting (1-3) on a special day for Pellicer, who reached 150 matches as MCF coach. Ahead of him, only the eternal Joaquín Peiró.

In the Copa del Rey, luck was not on their side and Málaga CF was knocked out at the first hurdle by the local Malaga side Estepona (3-2). In the second half of the season, results dipped, although the level of play allowed the team to remain competitive in every match, almost always decided by narrow margins.

The malaguista fans, the team’s greatest asset both at La Rosaleda and on the road, were a decisive factor in the final stretch with their unwavering support. The blanquiazules regained momentum in the competition, collecting 10 out of 12 possible points in the last four LALIGA HYPERMOTION matches played at La Rosaleda, which was enough to secure survival in the category with relative comfort.

Individually, besides Herrero—ranked in the top two for saves made in the league, leader in clean sheets, and always among the best in the Zamora Trophy standings—Dioni Villalba stood out as the top scorer, with seven goals, making him the “pichichi” of the 24/25 campaign.

Málaga Club de Fútbol finished in 16th place in the table with 53 points, eight clear of the relegation spots to Primera Federación. A more than accomplished objective in the Club’s return to the Second Division.
