Emotional, simple and beautiful. This is how yesterday’s tribute is defined at La Rosaleda Stadium for a family that unites Malaguismo, dedication and love for these colours with a brilliant past, thriving present and hopeful future.
With Miguel Zambrana as the star of the event, together with his son Miguel Zambrana Cueto, and Pepillo Zambrana in the memory of the numerous family members gathered together, there was a large delegation from the Club headed up by judicial administrator, José María Muñoz; director of the Sports Department, Manolo Gaspar; and first team coach, Sergio Pellicer.
With Basti, the soul of the MCF Foundation’s Social Department, as master of ceremonies, a tour of the stadium got underway, beginning with the Málaga CF dressing room. There the plaque was unveiled bearing the new name of the kit room, "Sala de Material Pepillo Zambrana", and a few lovely words from Basti to the Zambrana family and what they mean to the Club, which was emotional for everyone. Later on, stepping on to the pitch, there was the traditional family photo.
Lastly, the Málaga CF coaching team, doctors and assistants were waiting for Miguel father and son, along with their families, in the 'Juan Cortés' press room to give them a big hug and enjoy a surprise in the form of an emotional video starring a number of Málaga icons such as Larrainzar, Roteta, Bravo, Javier Souvirón, Movilla, Josemi, Pellegrini, Fernando Sanz, Sandro, Basti, Weligton, Isco and Fernando Peralta.
The tears of emotion were impossible to contain towards the end of the event, as Basti said the family is “part of the Málaga shield”. They are the past, present and future of the Club. Long live the Zambrana family.
