Winners announced in IV edition of #SiempreFuerte Awards

Antonio Banderas, a symbol of our city and one of the most universal Malagueños, receives the #SiempreFuerte Special Award. The Abdallah Ben Barek Award goes to handball star, Pepa Moreno, whilst the winning social entities are Asociación Benéfica Patronato Santo Domingo, AFENES and Hermanitas de los Pobres.

Málaga CF, via its Foundation, has held the IV edition of the #SiempreFuerte Awards. Members of the judging panel met to select the winners of the various awards this afternoon. The winners will receive their awards at a gala event to be held in February at the Museo Picasso Málaga with special care taken to adhere to safety measures to prevent COVID-19. The indelible memory and message of strength from Pablo Ráez is always in mind.

The judging panel was made up of Pablo Ráez’s father, Francisco Ráez; José María Muñoz, Málaga CF’s judicial administrator; Francisco Martín Aguilar, Málaga CF’s Protocol and Institutional Relations Adviser; Sebastián Fernández Reyes, ‘Basti’, from the MCF Foundation’s Social Department; Lucas Rodríguez, coordinator of the MCF Foundation; Francisco Pomares, Social Rights councillor at Málaga City Hall; Lourdes Piña, deputy for Equality, Social Services and Families at the Diputación Provincial de Málaga; Mercedes García Paine, Education, Sport, Conciliation, Equality and Social Policies delegate at the Junta de Andalucía; and Málaga CF players, David Lombán, Ruth Acedo and Carlos Zaragoza.

There are five prizes up for grabs; in the category of “Social Entity 2020 Awards”, there will be three winners, for those who have excelled in our society as well as their contribution to society; the “Abdallah Ben Barek Award” recognises effort, equality, solidarity, fair play and respect in sport; and lastly, the “Special #SiempreFuerte Award” distinguishes a person who for their social work or solidarity are a benchmark in society, particularly for young people.

Social Entity 2020 Awards

Asociación Benéfica Patronato Santo Domingo

“First, another chance”. This is the slogan of Asociación Benéfica Patronato Santo Domingo. Through their soup kitchen, since 1991, the association works with people at risk of or in a situation of social exclusion, in El Perchel and the surrounding area. In addition, it provides comprehensive care within several programmes; food, social intervention, psychological support, job orientation and training. Eighty volunteers work with this entity, with the aim of improving the lives of the most vulnerable.

AFENES

Founded in 1992, AFENES is an association that contributes to improving the quality of life of people with mental health problems and their families, as well as defending their rights and the fight against social stigma. To do this, the entity develops programmes that raise awareness and promote social inclusion, such as home care, ceramic and handicraft workshops, Family school, customer service, leisure and free time, sports, promotion of a healthy lifestyle and a holiday programme.

Hermanitas de los Pobres

They have cared for elderly people with little or no resources for 156 years. Currently, Hermanitas de los Pobres helps 58 elderly people, attempting to give them everything they need to be happy. For this, there are 35 helpers, as well as nine ‘hermanitas’. COVID-19 has further reduced their resources, as well as the activities of the elderly, who haven’t been able to leave the residence or receive visitors since 11th March. 

 

Abdallah Ben Barek Award

Pepa Moreno

A handball and beach handball legend in Málaga, she’ll always be the eternal captain wearing the number ‘8’ jersey of Club Balonmano Femenino Málaga Costa del Sol. In 2016, she joined the presidency of a team that, under her leadership, won the Copa de la Reina and Spanish Supercopa. Feats accomplished with her inseparable Diego Carrasco helping from above. Strength and tenacity define this born fighter.

 

#SiempreFuerte Special Award

The most well-known Malagueño, together with Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Actor, director, producer… And a symbol of solidarity for his constant support to those who need it most, through Fundación Lágrimas y Favores, Gala Starlite, Fundación CORINTO and Fundación CUDECA, as well as his participation in social events in which he improves the lives of others, without profit. An absolute star whose brightness illuminates Málaga and the entire world.
