Historic parade marks Málaga’s return to the top flight

Málaga took to the streets to celebrate Málaga CF's promotion to the First Division. It was a historic day marking the club's return to the top tier of Spanish football after eight years.

June 22 has once again earned its place in Blue and White history. Exactly two years ago, on the same date, the Club returned to professional football thanks to an unforgettable promotion secured in the 122nd minute in Tarragona. Yesterday, the city once again showcased its deep bond with the Club during a massive promotion parade filled with Malaguista emotion, pride, and an unmistakable sense of belonging.

The celebrations got underway in the afternoon at La Rosaleda Stadium, where a convoy of buses carrying the players, coaching staff, families, club directors, employees, and media representatives set off on a tour of some of Málaga's most iconic landmarks. Hundreds of thousands of supporters lined the streets to cheer on the team and celebrate the Club's 14th promotion to the First Division, and the third as MCF.

At the first stop of the route, the team made a floral offering to Nuestro Padre Jesús Cautivo at the Church of San Pablo, one of the city’s most symbolic landmarks for many people in Málaga. The parade then continued to Plaza de la Marina, where the squad paid a formal visit to the Diputación Provincial de Málaga. The square became a true meeting point between the provincial institution, the team, and an enthusiastic fanbase.

Afterwards, the convoy arrived at Málaga City Hall, located along Paseo del Parque. From the balcony, players and coaching staff shared the promotion celebrations with thousands of supporters below. David Larrubia acted as master of ceremonies and speaker, introducing each of his teammates as well as head coach Juanfran Funes, who was among the most warmly received by the Malaguistas.

The final stop took place in Capuchinos, with the traditional visit to the Parish of the Divina Pastora, patron saint of sport, bringing the day to a close with a fitting finale to an unforgettable celebration that ended where it began, at La Rosaleda Stadium. The promotion parade delivered lasting images and once again confirmed the extraordinary bond between Málaga CF and its supporters.

Eight years later, the Club returns to the elite backed by a city that never stopped believing. According to official estimates, more than 185,000 people took part in the celebrations, witnessing a historic parade marking Málaga’s return to the top flight. Thank you, Málaga!
