The Blue and Whites’ reserve team defeated Loja CD by 2-1 with two fantastic long-range goals by Álex Portillo and Víctor Ruiz. Olmedo scored for Loja CD in a 90th minute penalty. Atlético Malagueño played excellent football today, dominating play from the start and maintaining a strong defence. Despite having scored the highest number of goals in the group, Loja CD barely created any scoring opportunities this morning.

During the first half, Salva Ballesta’s boys showed great intensity, concentration and strength, in attack as well as defence.  The boys piled the pressure on the rival upfront, highlighting their superiority on the pitch, but not transforming chances into goals.  However the first goal of the match came in minute 26 with a spectacular shot by Álex Portillo from three quarters of the way down the pitch.  The Loja CD keeper had little chance of saving such a powerful shot at the target.
The Blue and Whites’ reserve team was even better in the second half.  They scored the second goal quickly, as Víctor Ruiz came up to the area from the left wing to smash the ball into the back of the net.  With a 2-0 advantage, the game was now more controlled.  Deco put paid to any ideas of a rival goal, Rafa de Vicente maintained the rhythm of play and Samu Castillejo created several more scoring opportunities, coming close to the third Blue and Whites’ goal of the day.
The referee awarded a controversial penalty in the last minute of normal time, with Olmeda scoring for Loja CD.  The locals maintained a tight defence today, with the only goal conceded being from a penalty.  Calero made his Third Division debut this morning and kept up his concentration and intensity of play: “This was the result of hard work in the academy,” said Ballesta after the match.
