Press conference

“There are 12 games left and the mathematical options are there”

Esteban Burgos held a press conference this Thursday at La Rosaleda. “We want to excite the fans. A victory would give us a major boost,” he said.

The Malaguista defender commented that the team “after Sunday was crushed. We didn’t expect that defeat. But we have to pick ourselves up. There are 12 matches left, there’s a long way to go. Although we’re not winning, we’re in good spirits and confident of a win on Saturday, which will be an extremely tough game,” he said.

“The mathematical options are still there, and the team isn’t playing badly. Mistakes are penalising us, but we need to fix them. We see rivals’ videos and we see that they have ‘flaws.’ When we win, we want to excite the fans. A victory would give us a major boost. It’s not about talking, it’s about doing,” continued the Argentinean player.

Burgos, like the fans and everyone around the team, sees the group “the same as all of you.” In Las Palmas “we’re going to find a team with great possession, playing a lot on the inside. We also saw their ‘flaws’ on video. The coach is clear how he wants to play, and we are adapting to that,” he stated.

The Blue and White number ‘20’ is self-critical: “This situation is our fault, and if anyone’s to blame, it’s us. (Second Division) In a very hard competition, last year I was 25 matches leading with Eibar and we didn’t get promoted. You can have a great squad, but then a thousand things happen. A lot of expectation is generated, and if that doesn’t work out, it gets complicated.”

And he’s also analytical. “I have fought relegations with Alcorcón, it was a long road and continued until the last match. As a player I try to distance myself from negativity. We have very passionate fans, I understand them. I try to spend time with my family, train hard behind the scenes, come here and train like an animal. And then sleep well knowing I gave my all,” he concluded.
