Biography
Pau Francisco Torres is a tall (1’91 metres) young (21 years old) defender born in Villarreal, formed in the youth ranks of the Castellón side. He stands out for his mettle with the ball from the back and his strength in aerial play.
In the 2016/17 campaign he excelled with Villarreal CF’s reserve team, who were just a point off reaching the Second Division playoffs following a superb season. Pau played 34 complete matches, all in the starting line-up, and scored two goals.
Last season, again in Group III of the bronze division, he played 25 matches – all complete and in the starting line-up – coming second in the league behind RCD Mallorca, although they didn’t emulate the Balearics squad who moved up to LaLiga 1|2|3. Pau accumulated 6 matches plus the Second Division promotion playoffs, in which Villarreal B lost in the final to Elche CF.
First team
Pau Torres made his debut with Villarreal CF in the Copa del Rey on 20th December 2016. It was at El Madrigal, against Toledo (1-1), substituting Víctor Ruiz in minute 80. The season before he played three complete matches as a starting player in the KO tournament, plus another two in LaLiga Santander and one in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League, totalling 411 minutes between all competitions.
