Scoring ability against a great defence

Earlier this season, and in previous years, Málaga CF has been capable of infiltrating the Athletic goal, whose defence has been the least hammered in three out of the last four LaLiga campaigns.

In the first-round clash at the Vicente Calderón, corresponding to the 10th LaLiga Santander match, Málaga CF was the first team in the competition to score twice in Oblak’s goal. Despite the final result (4-2), the Blue and Whites had options to obtain a good result against the second least defeated defence in LaLiga so far this season.

In addition, in the League match held in the 2014/15 season at La Rosaleda, the Blue and Whites also scored two goals against the ‘Colchonero’ rival, to achieve a 2-2 draw. Furthermore, last season, in which Atleti only conceded 18 goals in 38 games, Málaga CF scored and won (1-0) at La Rosaleda.

Out of the last four League seasons, the Red and Whites have conceded the fewest goals in three of them (2012/13, 2013/14 and 2015/16), with a praiseworthy average of 25 goals conceded per campaign, with Málaga CF scoring goals against the Madrid rival in all of them.

Also, La Rosaleda stadium hasn’t been too kind to Simeone’s team. Since the Argentine took the reins of Atlético de Madrid, they’ve only scored in two out of the last five visits to the Malaguista stadium. In the other three, they left La Rosaleda without netting any goals.
