Santa Cruz returns to Málaga CF

Málaga CF and Cruz Azul FC have come to an agreement for Paraguayan international, Roque Santa Cruz (Asunción, 16/08/1981) to return to the Blue and Whites on loan for one season. During his first phase as a ‘Malaguista’ he scored 21 goals in two and a half seasons.

Santa Cruz joined Málaga Club de Fútbol in 2012/13, taking part in 31 League games, four Copa del Rey and 10 UEFA Champions League matches, scoring 12 goals.  An unforgettable season for every ‘Malaguista’ fan as Santa Cruz scored an historic goal against Porto FC which saw Málaga CF through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

In 2013/14, Santa Cruz played 31 BBVA League matches, scoring six goals, and also one Copa del Rey game.  During his last half-season with the Blue and Whites, in 2014/15, Roque participated in 12 League matches, scoring three goals.

A legend with Paraguay

Roque Santa Cruz is a legend with his country, and with over 100 international games under his belt, he is the highest goal-scorer in Paraguay history.  The striker has taken part in three World Cups and four America Cups, the last being this summer in Chile as team captain, with Paraguay ending in fourth place.
