Roque Santa Cruz: “We want to clean up our image from the Porto match when we face Betis”

Paraguayan-born Roque Santa Cruz held a press conference ahead of this morning’s training session at the Ciudad de Málaga Athletics Stadium.

The ‘Malaguista’ striker highlights the importance of a victory in Sunday’s match against Real Betis Balompié to maintain fourth place in the League: “It’s crucial that we stay in this position until the end of the season.  It’s not going to be easy, but we’ve been performing well in away games recently so we need to maintain our good run of results.  We’re going to Sevilla determined to win on Sunday, to maintain fourth position.”

“We’ve reached a time in the season where we’re doing very well in away matches, and we want to clean up the image of our performance in Porto,” affirms Santa Cruz.

Real Betis Balompié will be focusing on upping their game against Málaga CF, which Roque has justified: “Despite the importance of this League clash, it’s still a derby.  Betis will be fighting for the chance to get in the running for a place in the Champions, and will be doing everything in their power to achieve their aim.”

The time Roque Santa Cruz spent at Betis came up at the press conference, and the Paraguayan-born striker confirmed his objectives for Sunday’s game: “I want to play the best football I can and hopefully score.  Football always brings a lot of joy, the biggest of all being a goal.  I’ll always have a great respect for the Betis fans for the time I spent at the club.”
