Reserve team makes things difficult for Antequera CF (1-0)

Atlético Malagueño defeated Antequera CF in today’s provincial derby thanks to a header into goal by Álex Portillo in minute 6 of play. The game was extremely hard-fought due to the intensity shown by Antequera, who continued to interrupt play due to numerous fouls.

The Blue and Whites got off to a good start and took the lead after six minutes, taking advantage of good movement from Ernesto Cornejo on the left wing, assisting Álex Portillo to head the ball into the back of the net.
On the right wing, and later in midfield, latest signing Nigerian-born Nwakali, made his debut today, with an impressive performance.
The match was tough from kick-off due to the high number of fouls, with and without the ball, which kept disrupting play and preventing the Blue and Whites from imposing their style of football.  However the ‘Malaguistas’ dominated possession and generated further scoring opportunities.
The match was so intense for the ‘Malaguistas’ that Deco was taken off on a stretcher as he sustained a fractured fibula which will see him out of action for a few weeks, and Ernesto Cornejo, suffering with injury discomfort, was unable to finish the match and left his team a player down.
Antequera CF also finished the game with fewer players.  In minute 64, Heredia was sent off following a double yellow card, at the time when Deco was injured, whilst in the 89th minute, Marcos was shown the red card for a hard foul on the edge of the area.
This is an important win for the Blue and Whites’ reserve team, who remain in the fight for play-off positions.  Salva Ballesta’s boys take on CD Ronda next weekend, who this week suffered an away defeat by Atlético Melilla (2-1).
