Recio: “The important thing is we qualified to the next round”

Following tonight’s game, the team is self-critical about the defeat and how it occurred, but is happy to have won their last-16 tie.

The scorer of the second goal, Recio, comments: “It’s a shame we lost. We shouldn’t have suffered after we had a 0-2 advantage at half-time, but the important thing is we qualified to the next round and we’re in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.  We’re really enthusiastic and eager to do our best in this competition, which we’re taking very seriously.  Being amongst the top eight teams is a big step forward.”

Luis Alberto adds: “We had a very strange 15 minutes.  I don’t think it was due to a lack of concentration, but when we conceded two goals within minutes of each other, it affected us psychologically.  I think we should have enjoyed the ball and the game more…”comments the Cádiz-born player.

Angeleri says: “It’s difficult to explain this type of situation.  We had the match under control having achieved a comfortable lead in the first half.  We got off to a good start after half-time and tried our best not to concede a goal and maintain control of play.  However the rival made some changes, perhaps we became over-confident, as they hit us with a surprise goal, and then another…but I think we knew it was going to happen.”

The Argentinean-born defender stays focused on the positive: “We qualified to the next stage of the competition, and we must make sure we learn from this experience.  We’ve got a young squad who can really benefit from this, particularly as we’ve made it through to the quarter-finals.  It’s important to analyse the specific situations and correct them during the week so they don’t happen again.  We now need to hold our heads up and concentrate on the match at the weekend.”

Málaga CF won’t know their quarter-final rival until the tie between Real Club Celta de Vigo and Athletic Club is decided.  Luis Alberto has no preference: “It doesn’t matter which opponent we face next.  If we want to reach the final, we’ll have to come up against major teams and win.”
