It was in the 2003/04 campaign when Juan and Josemi met at Málaga CF, playing four matches together (2 in the League and 2 in the Cup). The right-back, three years older than the former midfielder, made his debut in the elite league on 28 September 2003. Málaga visited and won on the Espanyol pitch(1-2), in the 5th match of First Division, sharing the last half hour of play after Juan coming on - as his premiere- for Manu Sánchez. Josemi, was part of a legendary wing made up of Fernando Sanz, Litos and Valcarce.

The following year, 2004/05, Josemi emigrated to England and conquered the prized UEFA Champions League with Liverpool FC. Juan, meanwhile, was consolidated at MCF and Antonio Tapia contributed to his work and quality (5 goals in 27 league games) in a second round to remember, with Champions numbers.

Their friendship continued in the same way as their careers in different destinations, with a common link: Mallorca. After playing at Villarreal CF (2005-08), Josemi spent two years in the Mallorquin squad (2008-10) in the First Division . Juan Rodríguez, after a decade in the top category being a basic pillar of Deportivo de la Coruña (2006-11) and Getafe CF (2011-16), closed his career as a player in Mallorca in the silver division (2016/17).
