Preview of #MálagaGranada

Málaga CF will play Granada CF tomorrow, at La Rosaleda, in the 16th match of LaLiga 1|2|3. The game will kick off at 6 p.m.

It’s a high stakes clash this Saturday at La Rosaleda.  The Blue and Whites squad, third on the table with 29 points, this weekend welcome to Martiricos Granada CF, a rival that currently occupies fourth place with 28 points.

The encounter, the 16thof this campaign, will be refereed by Toledo-born, Rioja-licenced César Soto Grado.  This season he debuts in the 2ndDivision and it is the first official Málaga CF match that he’s adjudicated.

Rivalry CD Málaga-Granada CF

Over several decades, CD Málaga’s main rival was Granada CF, meeting on numerous occasions in a variety of competitions(1st, 2nd, 3rd Divisions, Copa del Rey and Promoción).

In what is referred to as the silver category of Spanish football, CD Málaga welcomed Granada CF 18 times, of these was the 11thmatch of the 1934/35 season when they were known as CD Malacitano and Recreativo Granada, respectively. This match was played at los Baños del Carmen on 10thFebruary 1935 and it ended with a 3-1 win for the Malacitanistas, with goals from Crespo, Tomasín and  Larruskain.

The total balance of these 18 games - 14 at La Rosaleda and 4 at los Baños del Carmen – was 12 wins, 5 draws and 1 defeat for CD Málaga, notching up 37 goals and conceding 12.

Elsewhere, the Malaguista legend Sebastián Viberti played his first friendly against Granada CF at La Rosaleda on 26 November 1969. The match ended with a Malaguista win by 3-2.
