Ponferrada, kilometre 12

Málaga CF claimed a point from El Toralín to reach a total of 18 from 12 matches up to now. Yanis Rahmani scored his first goal and Joaquín Muñoz made his debut on LaLiga SmartBank matchday 12.

There are always different aspects of league games that can sometimes go unnoticed. As such, we look at some of them here in more detail:

A surprise landing

Málaga CF hoped to touch down at León airport (LEN) at 19:35 on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s LaLiga SmartBank matchday 12 clash with SD Ponferradina. However, dense fog prevented the landing, and the pilot was forced to divert to Asturias airport (OVD), some 160 kilometres away. As the arrival at this airport was unscheduled, the aircraft had to wait until air traffic control granted permission to land. The plane eventually touched down an hour later than planned (20:30). Once outside communication could be made, those responsible contacted the buses – properly disinfected in line with current health regulations – that were still awaiting the team in León. Pellicer’s men arrived at their concentration hotel in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Yanis’ first goal

The winger has made some great performances so far this season, and last Sunday he scored his debut goal. Following a rapid transaction on the counter-attack in minute 16 of play, Rahmani took advantage of a great assist from Chavarría in front of the target to outwit the keeper with superb definition and net his first goal with the Blue and Whites. His performance indicates this could be the first of many. As he always says on social media, Why Not?

And then the day arrived, Joaquín

For a Malaguista, making your official debut as a Málaga CF player is a dream come true. On loan, he has already debuted in the First and Second Division, but yesterday was undoubtedly one of the most special matches in the life of Joaquín Muñoz. At last, the talented young player donned the Blue and White jersey – dressed in yellow on this occasion – and played several minutes having recovered from injury he had before his arrival. The boy from Miraflores, who has cheered on his team so many times at La Rosaleda, is now ready to step on the pitch at his home ground. We’re sure he can’t wait.
