The Blue and Whites’ manager, Manuel Pellegrini, spoke to the media in La Rosaleda’s press room after the Málaga-Osasuna match.
Pellegrini’s statements:
(Satisfied). “In the collective operation, today we’ve got closer to what one wants.”
(Debutantes in the league). “Weligton is suspended from the ‘Copa del Rey’ and we made Mathijsen rest to play Weligton, the same for Sergio Sánchez, I’m pleased that Weligton was at such a good level after not playing for so long and Juanmi is training very well, he’s always an important ‘card’.”
(Osasuna match). “They lost two points; we’re not obsessed – with Europe – today we took an important step to be in the top end of the table. I believe the team worked as a coach would want. Osasuna managed with their approach to get a point, we weren’t precise enough in the occasions we had; it’s always going to be more important to win, but I think that the team performed at a high level. Making assessments is very premature, there are still lots of matches at home to continue making ourselves strong and we’ll start balancing these out with wins away. Their goal was a few bounces and the managed to convert it. Osasuna have some good players in attack but they couldn’t get any goal chances, it was a ball that bounced on one of our players and from there the ball went in.”
(Copa del Rey). “It two leg matches it’s very important to score away. We’re going to take the Copa del Rey very seriously, we’ll look at the team who’ll play on Tuesday and hopefully it’ll be a good game against Getafe, as today, to lead the way in the table and then back it up at home.”
