Pellegrini: "Generally speaking, it’s the Málaga we’ve always wanted”

Málaga coach, Manuel Pellegrini, held a post-match press conference in La Rosaleda, following Málaga’s win against Rayo 4-2.

Statements from Pellegrini

“I’m not sure if it was our best match of the season, but the team played a great game, scoring four goals, having two legitimate goals disallowed, and another four clear chances at goal, against a team who put on a great show.  It was a fantastic match, and we came away with the three points”.

“The substitutions worked well in the game, with two players scoring goals.  I’m so pleased for the team.  I’m very proud to coach a group of players who always try to win every match.  We’ve still got ten matches left to play in the championship which is now very tight.  I’m very happy with how the team’s playing”.

“The most important thing is to win, but you need the right mentality to be able to get the results.  The team has a very positive dynamic, creating a lot of goal opportunities.  As well as getting the results, we’re looking for the right mechanics of the game.  The team believes in what we’re doing.  We never have any pre-conceptions of a match, but treat everything on a day to day basis.  The team is showing that they have several options, but football changes regularly.  There are lots of teams fighting in the championship, but we’ve always had our ambition to go as far as we possibly can”.

“The fans are a very important factor for us at La Rosaleda.  They never criticise us, and always show their continued support.  Málaga is an entertaining team to watch, and if the fans enjoy themselves, it’s great.  This is the Málaga we’ve always wanted.  The important thing is to find a game play to beat our rivals.  We’re balanced as a team, and scoring goals, with the visitors only scoring the two penalties”.

“I’m not that aware of the criticism or praise we receive abroad.  Throughout the entire season, there are the best and worst moments, I’m proud of the team, but there are still ten matches left.  Our rivals are fighting for the same objective as us.  The discourse has never changed, not before or after”.

“I’ve always said that our performances as a team are important, but playing as individuals is also significant.  Rondón played a fantastic match, but I’m very pleased with the 14 who were on the pitch”.
