Pedro Bazán, eternal at La Rosaleda

The Club recognised one of the Malaguista legends with the inauguration of Door 9 in his name. Bazán, a goal-scorer in the 40s and 50s, scored the highest number of goals, nine, in a match of national competition.

Today, Thursday 29th December, Málaga CF paid tribute to one of the most iconic players in the Club’s history, Pedro Bazán.  From today, Door 9 of La Rosaleda stadium will bear the name of the striker, who was part of the Blue and Whites for eight seasons, scoring 146 goals in 208 matches.

Bazán was also the first Malaguista player to debut with Spain (B), and achieved the team’s first promotion to the First Division in 1949.

The family of the former player attended today’s inauguration at La Rosaleda’s Door 9, and unveiled the plaque bearing his name.  His grandson, Pedro Bazán thanked the Club for this gesture: “The family has been dreaming of this, and it’s now a reality.  We’re delighted”.

Málaga CF Club adviser, Abdullah Ben Barek remembers Pedro Bazán “for his goals; he was a goal-scorer.  We’re now going to remember him with this door at La Rosaleda.  He deserves it”.

Member of the MCF Foundation’s Social Department, Sebastián Fernández Reyes ‘Basti’ is very proud: “From the Foundation and the Club, and of course our president, Al Thani at the head, we’re all thrilled to name this door after Pedro Bazán”.

Finally, first team coach, Marcelo Romero presented the Bazán family with a shirt from this season bearing the name and number of the former Malaguista player, along with a miniature replica of Door 9.
