No points for Málaga away to Elche (2-0)

Defeat for Málaga CF at the Martínez Valero, against Elche CF, on LaLiga 1|2|3 matchday 10. Goals from Neyder and Borja led the locals to victory.

The Malaguista line-up presented the new additions of Munir, N’Diaye and Ontiveros, in respect of the last match against Albacete, in place of Kieszek, Lacen and Pacheco. Following a tentative start, the first approach from Málaga to the Elche goal was a Blanco Leschuk header following a Juanpi pass (10’). The home side responded in minute 18 with Sory Kaba sending the ball near to the right post.

Midway through the first half Elche had more control of the ball, but in areas of little danger. A solid, compact Málaga waited for their moment to ‘kill’. It could have happened in minute 27, with a pass between the lines from Juanpi to Leschuk, who didn’t manage to convert in a one-on-one with Francis Uzoho. Pacheta’s men, very intense, went ahead thanks to a superb header from Neyder into the back of the net (1-0, 36’).

Trailing behind on the scoreboard, Málaga CF went into the break focused on the team’s second consecutive comeback.

Héctor, in place of Harper, was the first substitution of the game for Muñiz in the second half, to accompany Leschuk upfront. In the 48th minute it was Héctor who could have scored the equaliser in a play that stemmed from a Luis Hernández throw-in. Francis, in 61’, impeded the Blue and Whites going all square following a pass on the left from Juanpi that culminated in a close-range shot at goal for Leschuk. Immediately afterwards Elche scored their second goal thanks to a great Borja free kick (2-0, 63’).

Following Elche’s goal, there was a double MCF substitution, with Hicham and Pacheco replacing Juanpi and Ontiveros. The set pieces, with Pacheco in charge, became the best resource in the subsequent minutes in an attempt to get on the scoreboard. The player from Pizarra, in 89’, tried his luck with a long shot that was blocked by Francis. Then in stoppage time, again Pacheco launched the ball to the side of the net from a free kick.

It wasn’t to be. The final 2-0 result marks the second league defeat of the season for a Málaga CF that still leads the standings with 22 points out of 10 LaLiga 1|2|3 matches.
