Muñiz: “Our dream was to qualify"

The Málaga CF coach regrets the elimination but is happy with the minutes the less regular players had. “It was a match that was good for us all to have the pace of play, but we have another objective”, he said.

Objective

"It was a match that was good for us all to have the pace of play. When you haven’t played for a while, the most interesting thing is to play. The aim was to win and get through this round, giving minutes to the less regular players. The rival team had the same reading of the game; to compete and let the players enjoy minutes. What matters to us most in the Second Division is LaLiga, we must view the Cup as a way for everyone to gain rhythm”.

Less regular players

"It was interesting to be able to see the players in action who haven’t been playing, those from the lower categories, and see them compete against teams in our category. In that sense it was positive. Logically, the result has knocked us out of the competition. We now want to prepare for the next match with a good recovery”.

Match

"The match was very even; there weren’t many alternatives in play. Our dream was to qualify, but we have another objective. The Cup is attractive if you play at home or nearby, but if you have a long trip it can ruin the week. I’m satisfied I saw those who are competing less, we need everyone to be ready to play. It’s a shame we didn’t make it through, but we must concentrate on the next match, which is another competition”.

Juanpi

"Juanpi played a series of pre-season games, he didn’t play many minutes, and began to train hard. Our aim is for Juanpi to get to a level he reached before in the Club, which he’s clear about. He knows the objectives we have for him. For him this match served to accumulate the minutes he needs for when he competes in the League, to enable him to endure the maximum number of minutes at a high level and intensity”.
