Moayad Shatat will lead Málaga CF’s representation at the quarter-finals draw
For the first time in history, Málaga CF is amongst the eight best teams in Europe, and will find out their Champions League quarter-finals rival in Friday’s draw at UEFA headquarters.
Club Vice-President, Moayad Shatat; Adviser, Francisco Martín Aguilar; General Manager, Vicente Casado; and Presidential Director and the Club’s UEFA contact, Víctor Varela, will represent Málaga CF during this historic moment in Nyon (Switzerland). From now on, the draw is open and any team can be selected to play against any other, regardless of origin or position in the group stage. The draw will also decide the location of the first leg matches of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, taking place on 2nd / 3rd April, and the return leg matches being held on 9th / 10th April.
There are no set precedents with regards to Málaga CF’s possible rivals in this competition, however in the case of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, their performance in the Spanish League is no secret. The other clubs within the elite eight are: Germany’s Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich; France’s Paris Saint-Germain; Turkey’s Galatasaray; and Juventus from Italy.
For the second consecutive year, a newcomer to the UEFA Champions League has reached the quarter-finals. This time it’s Málaga CF’s turn, last season it was Apoel FC from Cyprus. It’s been 10 years since Spain had three teams taking part in this stage of the competition; last time it was Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Valencia CF.
Following the quarter-finals draw, a UEFA Champions League workshop is being held for the last eight teams in the tournament. Víctor Varela will attend on behalf of Málaga CF.
Another draw taking place on 12th April will decide the semi-final pairings. These matches are being held on 23rd / 24th April and 30th April / 1st May. Málaga CF will discover their Champions League quarter-finals rival tomorrow.
