Midfielder Onyewu is MCF’s fourth signing

Málaga Club de Fútbol and Sporting Clube de Portugal have reached a loan agreement, with option to buy, the American, but Nigerian-born, defender, 30 year old Oguchialu Chijioke Onyewu, 1,95 metres in height. The midfielder, who’s career began with French team FC Metz, has played for La Louvière, Standard de Lieja, Newcastle, AC Milan and Twente, as well as the most recent Sporting Clube de Lisboa. Onyewo is a European citizen, with a Belgian passport.

A strong, very physical player, Oguchi Onyewa has two League titles under his belt, the Belgian Supercup with Standard Lieja, as well as the KNVB Cup with Twente in 2010/11, when he was named as one of the best defenders in the competition.  Onyewu has played for the United States more than 65 times, won two CONCACAF Gold Cups with the North-American side, as well as being named as the best footballer in the States in 2006.  He also took part in the 2009 Federations Cup in South Africa, when the USA defeated Spain.
