Míchel: “We need to play with authority and respect”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference in the run-up to #LeganésMálaga: “Our players realise the responsibility they have, and that has to bring out their qualities, of which there are many”.

Responsibility

“The objective has changed. Perhaps because expectations were a little crazy at the beginning of the season, as to reach the initial goal set out needed a great deal of regularity, which is something the team hasn’t had. The players, since we arrived here, have always performed at a high level in training sessions, they realise the responsibility they have, which has to be well understood. It’s important to bring out the qualities of our players, of which there are many”.

Style of play

“The confusion about playing well comes when there’s talk about playing nice football. Playing well is to adapt to the conditions of the team. This is what we did in the second half last week. We play well and deserve more, that’s the reality”.

Pressure

“Pressure is often referred to as a bad thing, when it isn’t. This Club, with this squad and these fans, cannot afford to be going through this situation, but we must tackle it head on. We can’t get away from what we call positive responsibility”.

Youth ranks

“I always tell the sports managers that I like to have three or four lads from the youth teams developing, training and participating with us. If I had any doubts, watching Atlético Malagueño’s match I think there are possibilities in many players”.

CD Leganés

“They’ve turned the overall prognosis on its head. Everyone thought they’d be in a much worse position in the table at this point in the season. They are where they are because the players are hard-workers, and undoubtedly deserve it. Garitano has transmitted great strength to his players, and they are a good First Division side. We must assume our responsibility tomorrow and play with authority and maximum respect.  The difference between us is just in name and history, as the points are there to see. We have the greatest respect for Leganés, who have very good First Division footballers who want to remain there, as do we”.
