MCF Academy continues to make the grade

A successful weekend for grassroots football both nationally and internationally. The Infantil ‘A’ won the Slavia Cup and the ‘Alevínes’ reached the semi-finals of the prestigious Azpeitia Cup.

Slavia International Cup | Infantil

MCF’s 1ª Infantil, recently named runners-up of the Andalusian Championships, won the Slavia Cup in central Europe. Following a sensational first group stage in which they defeated Croatian side, Split (2-0), Beijing (3-1) and Polish outfit, Lech Poznan (1-0), as well as securing draws against the Czech Republic (2-2) and Puskas Academy (1-1), the Blue and Whites qualified to the semi-finals in first place.

The team enjoyed a clear victory against the national team of China (3-3), with Málaga CF going on to win the tournament after defeating the Puskas Academy in the final by 3-1.

Azpeitia Cup | Alevín

A team made up of first year Alevínes (2007) ‘A’ and ‘B’ from The Academy, achieved a magnificent fourth place in one of the most important national tournaments, held in the Basque Country. Málaga led the initial group stage with three wins and one draw, maintaining a clean sheet (2-0 against Atlético de Madrid and Comillas de Santander, 5-0 against Elche and 0-0 against Alavés). They were again in first place in the second phase, keeping a clean sheet with a 3-0 win against Tarrasa and 1-0 against Betis, and a draw (0-0) with Getafe.

RCD Espanyol, in the semi-finals, prevented Málaga CF from reaching the final, with the Blue and Whites missing out on third place following defeat by Real Madrid (1-3).
