Match preview: Sevilla FC-Málaga CF

Málaga CF is visiting the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium to face Sevilla FC. The 20th LaLiga match of the season kicks off on Saturday 16th at 4 p.m., refereed by Catalan-born Estrada Fernández.

The ‘Malaguistas’, 10th place in the table with 24 points, begin the second round of the competition against a 7th placed Sevilla with 29 points.  In the first round match at La Rosaleda, Málaga and Sevilla drew 0-0, in the 1st LaLiga match of the 2015/16 season.  As MCF in the First Division, the Blue and Whites have visited Nervión 13 times, resulting in five wins, five draws and three defeats.  The last victory in Sevilla was in the 16th match of the 2012/13 season, when Pellegrini’s Málaga won by 0-2 with goals from Demichelis and Eliseu.

Historical data:

  • Sevilla FC is the rival who has faced Málaga CF in the highest number of official matches since 1994, totalling 33 (27 in the First Division, two in the Second Division and four in the Copa del Rey).
  • On 19th January 2003 (nearly 13 years ago), Sevilla and Málaga locked horns in the 18th match of the 2002/03 campaign, held in Chapín (Jerez) which ended in a 0-0 draw.
  • The Sevilla-Málaga match (2-2) held on 27/03/1983 was CD Málaga’s 500th in the First Division.
  • The Sevilla FC-CD Málaga match (3-1) held on 30/10/1949 was CD Málaga’s first Andalucían derby in the First Division.  During this match, CD Málaga’s first substitution in the First Division took place (Bellido for Cesáreo López), during a time when only the goalkeeper would change.
