Malaguistas and the World Cup | Duda

Sergio Paulo Barbosa Valente, ‘Duda’, took part in the 2010 South Africa World Cup with Portugal. The day before the peninsula derby in Russia, the number ‘17’ spoke to MCFTV to analyse the run-up to the game and recall his experiences with the national squad.

An equal derby

“Two teams will be playing that, for me, are candidates to win the World Cup. I think perhaps Spain starts as the favourite, but I believe Portugal has a great squad and could make things difficult”.

Still good friends

“I know some players from my generation who are still there. We have a great relationship. Portugal with Ronaldo and Pepe is very strong. People in the football world know the value they have for this team”.

World Cup experience

“It was the 2010 season, where we were saved against Real Madrid in the last match. We went to the World Cup in a great year, but we came up against a superb Spain and were eliminated”.

Great memories

“If there’s a competition you want to take part in it’s the World Cup. It’s where the best teams are, the best players, and it’s a reward for everyone because you win with your team. It’s very important to enjoy it to the max as these moments pass and you’re left with unforgettable memories”.

Portugal - Spain

“I’d opt for a Portugal – Spain final. I think it’ll be a beautiful game, in which they will respect each other, with the most important thing being you see a great show and Portugal wins (laughs). I believe a draw and then each one winning their two matches respectively could see both get through, and we could see them in the final”.
