Málaga CF reinforces with Jony Rodríguez

The young winger, Jonathan Rodríguez Menéndez ‘Jony’ (Cangas del Narcea, Asturias, 9/07/91), previously with Sporting de Gijón, where he was one of the sensations of the La Liga last season, will play for Málaga CF for the next four campaigns.

Málaga CF announces, after the incorporation of Keko Gontán, the second reinforcement of the 2016/17 campaign: Jony Rodríguez, one of the standout young players in the First Division last season.

The Asturian-born left winger has been instrumental in allowing Sporting der Gijón to remain in the elite league thanks to five goals and nine key goal roles.  And at 24 years old, he’s another young footballer who knows how to perfect Spain’s La Liga.

Trajectory

Jony Rodríguez was developed in the youth squads of Real Oviedo and FC Barcelona – where he participated in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons in La Masía’s youth team.  It was a training that was had in different clubs, such as Oviedo, Marino de Luanco, Getafe B and Real Avilés until the summer of 2013, the year in which he signed for Sporting de Gijón.

In this same season, on 10 May 2014, he debuted in the Second Division with Sporting’s first goal against Hercules, and was there during the ‘Sporingguistas’ promotion to the First Division.

The following year, the winger, who has scored seven goals, took part in 10 further one, and who helped secured Sporting’s permanency in the top league in 2015/16, become one of the sensations of Spanish football.
