Brazilian-born midfielder, Lucas Piazon, was presented as the new Málaga CF signing on loan (without option to buy) from Chelsea FC at La Rosaleda today. The midfielder will be with the Blue and Whites until the end of the season.
Before posing with his Málaga shirt, the new number ‘12’ held a press conference along with first team Sports Manager, Mario Husillos.
Lucas Piazon
“This is a great time for Málaga. I decided to come here because Málaga CF is such a great Club; I was told I’d be made very welcome and would be very happy here, which is why I’m here today.”
“I hope I get opportunities to play with the Blue and Whites. I spoke briefly to Pellegrini before he left for Barcelona, so I hope to get the chance to help the team out as much as I can.”
“I can play on the left or right wing, as well as in midfield. I don’t really have a preference over any of these three positions.”
“Last week, before I arrived here, Julio Baptista spoke very highly of the Club in the Brazilian press. I was talking to him too yesterday and he really helped me in training so I understood what I had to do. The Portuguese-speaking or Brazilian players are a great help to me in training.”
“It’s normal that I get compared to Kakà. I started off at Sao Paulo and Kakà played there too, and when great players like him come from a Club then it’s natural that comparisons are made. I, or indeed any other player, could be the next kaka or Robinho, which certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing!”
“The team played very well against Barcelona, both in defence and attack. They managed to set a second goal with just ten men, to bring a great result home.”
Mario Husillos
“Anyone that has been following youth football over the past two or three years will know of Piazon, as he’s had all the big Clubs around the world after him. Finally Lucas decided to go to Chelsea, one of the biggest Clubs on the planet, and we’re very proud to have him on loan with us.”
“It wasn’t easy getting him here. He’s come to occupy his own position, being the great player that he is.”
“It’s important to view the departure of Recio and Juanmi from both a sporting and the Club’s point of view. Both have supported the team brilliantly in recent matches, and they both want the chance to play more games and have a more active participation with the first team. We think they’ll be playing a lot more in 2013-2014, so having the chance now to play more matches with other teams is a great advantage for them. Both Recio and Juanmi are eager to face a new challenge and play a lot more football. Of course the arrival of Lucas is as a result of the other two boys being loaned out. He’s been a priority for two months now.”
“We’re in the market and looking into various positions. The easiest thing to do is to write down the positions and ensure there are two players to fill each one, then we can focus our search for new signings based on what the team is lacking.”
