Left-back Ignasi Miquel reinforces the defence

The player - raised in the youth ranks of FC Barcelona and Arsenal – arrives at Málaga CF for the remainder of this season plus another three, after playing the first half of the competition as a starter with CD Lugo, currently in second place in LaLiga 123.

At 25 years old, 1’88m in height, Ignasi Miquel Pons (28/09/92, Barcelona) has been an undisputed starting player with CD Lugo in 16 of the 17 games in the first half of the competition, plus one Copa del Rey match.

A left-back, he will occupy the federative place with Málaga CF that was left vacant by injured Juankar, and due to his optimal fitness level, will be incorporated into group training immediately.


Ignasi Miquel developed as a player within two great youth ranks: FC Barcelona, where he spent five years, and Arsenal FC, where he made his first team debut in the FA Cup on 20th February 2011, at just 19 years of age. Subsequently, ‘Gunner’ coach, Arsene Wenger also gave him the opportunity of competing in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League during the 2011/12 season.

International in the lower categories

Ignasi Miquel was European U-19 champion with Spain, being in the starting line-up in the final along with players such as Morata, Rubén Pardo, Carvajal, Deulofeu and ex-Malaguista, Juanmi. He has also been an international with the U-21s.

Medical examination

The player passed the medical satisfactorily between yesterday and today at Hospital Vithas Parque San Antonio and Vithas Salud Rincón Rosaleda, and today will take part in training with his new teammates.
