La Rosaleda roars for a dominant Spain

The Spanish women’s national team defeated Sweden 4–0 last night at La Rosaleda Stadium in the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Nations League semifinals.

It was a special night of women’s football at La Rosaleda, with a large crowd filling the Martiricos stands, decked out in red and yellow.

On the pitch, Sonia Bermúdez’s team, in her debut as Spain’s head coach, was clearly superior to their opponent, settling the contest within the first third of the match.

Alexia Putellas opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a superb direct free kick. In the 32nd minute, Claudia Pina, who came on as a substitute for the injured Salma Paralluelo, netted Spain’s second goal. Moments later, Alexia made it 3–0 in minute 35. And in second-half stoppage time, just before the final whistle, Claudia Pina struck again to all but seal Spain’s place in the final (4–0, 94’).

La Rosaleda came alive with the brilliant football of a Spanish side that will play the second leg of the Women’s Nations League semifinals on Tuesday 28th October (19:00) in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.
