La Rosaleda remembers Zárraga in tonight’s match

Málaga Club de Fútbol players will be wearing black armbands during tonight’s League match in La Rosaleda against Racing de Santander, in memory of former Blue and Whites coach, José María Zárraga.

Zárraga joined Club Deportivo Málaga in the 1963/64 season, and subsequently worked as technical secretary and manager.  Everyone at Martiricos sends their love and support to his family.

José María Zárraga was born in Guecho (Vizcaya) on the 15th August 1930.  Following his amazing footballing career (winning five Copas de Europa with Real Madrid), his first job as coach was with Club Deportivo Málaga in 1963/64, taking over from José Luis Riera.  He was key in the Málaga team achieving it’s goals that season.  Following his great performance as coach (CD Málaga signed Domingo Balmanya for the 64/65 campaign), Zárraga turned down several lucrative offers from other teams, and continued with Málaga, this time as technical secretary and manager, which he did until 68/69.
