Kilometre 15: What a point

Málaga CF, down to 10 men, came back to score a point against CD Lugo after trailing 0-2. A brace from homegrown player Juande sealed the draw and a point with a taste of victory.

Taken out of context, a draw at home is not usually a very remarkable result. However, many Malaguistas will remember the team’s 2-2 draw on Friday night at La Rosaleda against CD Lugo. Being 0-2 down, with 10 men, Pellicer’s men managed to claim a point from a game they looked set to lose.

38 minutes with a player down

The referee sent off Malaguista forward Caye Quintana in minute 56 of play. There were 34 minutes remaining, along with four minutes of stoppage time, which totalled 38 minutes – 2,280 seconds – during which the Blue and Whites were down to 10 men. At that point in the match, the scoreboard showed a 0-2 lead for the visitors. However, the great tactical approach and physical effort shown by the Blue and Whites, gave the impression that at no time was there a numerical disadvantage between the teams.

Juande, 21-year-old hero

This is, without doubt, Juande’s year. The homegrown player debuted last season, but this is his year. He renewed his contract with the Club and wears the number ‘5’ jersey inherited from David Lombán, with a professional registration. Despite his position placing him many metres away from the opposing goal, yesterday he scored a brace (70' and 88') to secure a point for his team that felt like three.

A new Blue and White ‘pichichi’

Juande has now scored a total of four goals. He netted the victory goal against Real Sporting (matchday 7), in the duel against CD Leganés (matchday 13) and the brace last night against CD Lugo (matchday 15). With these four goals, he surpasses Pablo Chavarría who has scored three.
