Kameni: "I made my debut on a pitch where I was for seven years, it couldn’t have been better”

Málaga’s Cameroon keeper Carlos Kameni spoke to the media this Tuesday morning, in the Ciudad de Málaga press room.

Statements from Kameni

Dream debut
“ I couldn’t even have dreamt it.  I went out there as a result of Willy’s injury, which was difficult, and I hope he recovers quickly as we need him.  It was a sign from God that I made my debut on this pitch, where I was for seven years, it couldn’t have been better and we came home with three points.  Destiny?  Yes, when you try to do things right, it comes back to you in one way or another”.

Team player
"The last few months with Espanyol wasn’t that great.  I left without saying goodbye to the fans.  I’m very happy and focused at Málaga now, concentrating on Saturday.  Coming here was so liberating, and I’ve been very happy since I started, and hope to be here a long time.  Málaga has a great goalkeeper in Willy, who’s proved himself time after time.  I’m a team player and always try to help the team as much as I can, to help us grow stronger”.

The start of an amazing time
“We don’t need to talk about Champions positions as we’ve never done it before, we need to keep playing in the same way, and try to score every weekend.  We need to keep our feet on the ground and a clear head, there’s still a lot of matches left to play in the League, and we can’t lose our concentration.  The best, yet most difficult part lies ahead.  I’m working as hard as I can to be fit for the weekend.  I hope this is the start of an amazing time here, I don’t need to prove anything to anyone, I just want to be part of this team, and I hope we all have big smiles on our faces at the end of the League, to give something back to the fans who support us every day, and enjoy European competition”.

Working day to day
“We’re professionals and need to be prepared at any moment.  Losing a team mate is always hard, but it’s a fact of life.  We’re working well as a strong team, but it’s such a shame that players get injured, but we hope they’ll be back soon to finish the season.  I try not to dream too much about things, but focus on reality.  A coach once said that you should play in matches like you do in training.  I try to work as hard as I can throughout the week, to be more at ease.  Working here at this Club was a pleasant surprise, it’s important for me to love what I do, and I’m very happy here and pleased to be at this Club”.

Derby against Betis
“For our next match we need to keep doing what we’ve been doing.  Every derby is complicated.  In Barcelona, I only played in one against Barcelona.  I’ve played in two here, Granada and Sevilla, and now we’re ready to earn three points against Betis.
