‘Juvenil B’ named runners-up in XIP International Cup Tournament
La Academia’s ‘Juvenil B’ team, part of Group 13 in the ‘Liga Nacional’, finished runners-up in the international tournament held over the weekend in Sant Pol de Mar (Barcelona), after losing out to RCD Espanyol (3-1) in the final.
David Cabello’s team kicked off the competition with a win against Villarreal CF (1-2), thank to goals from Jony and Miguel Ángel, the latter being in stoppage time. The second match of the tournament ended in a massive 14-1 victory for the ‘Malaguistas’ against FS Massana, allowing the Blue and Whites to move ahead of second-placed Yokohama Marinos following a goalless draw, on goal average.
The grand final took place on Sunday morning against RCD Espanyol, who arrived undefeated after beating CF Damm, Higashi Fukuoka, and host team, Sant Pol. The ‘Pericos’ opened the scoring with two quick goals, however José Carlos put the ‘Malaguistas’ on the score board in minute 25. The remainder of play was tight between both rivals, ending in a 3-1 win for RCD Espanyol.
