José Rodríguez joins Málaga CF

Midfielder, José Rodríguez Martínez, 22 years old and born in Villajoyosa (Alicante), arrives on loan to Málaga CF for the remainder of the 2016/17 season, from Bundesliga side, FSV Mainz 05. The Club retains an option to buy the player following the loan period.

Stats and career

José Rodríguez, 1’85 metres in height and weighing 72 kilos, plays in midfield and was formed in Villajoyosa CF and Hércules CF, before joining Real Madrid’s youth ranks. In the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons, he competed with Real Madrid Castilla, as well as playing four matches with Real Madrid’s first team in 2012/13, under the orders of José Mourinho, and scoring one goal in the Copa del Rey.

Deportivo, Galatasaray and Mainz

He was loaned out to Deportivo de La Coruña in the 2014/15 season, becoming an important player on the team (2 goals in 27 games). After his loan period came to an end, he returned to Real Madrid CF to then be transferred to Galatasaray SK, where he won the Turkish Cup and Supercup. Following a campaign with the Ottoman team, he moved to FSV Mainz 05.

International in the youth ranks

José Rodríguez has been an international with Spain’s under-17s, under-19s, under-20s and under-21s, taking part with the latter in the qualifiers for the European Championships in Poland in 2017.
